Hey BR101´a
Today we are going to do something that I feel will save you a lot of time- vocabulary.
We all know that without actually understanding the vocabulary in your text, it's not as easy to understand the plot. So I'll just make a list of words you should know because they come up in the text multiple times, and as well as their corresponding definitions.
sinister: Adj. giving the impression that something harmful or evil is happening or will happen
indigestion: n. pain or discomfort in the stomach associated with difficulty in digesting food.
reverberating:v. (of a loud noise) be repeated several times as an echo.
buoyed (swimmers would know this word): v keep (someone or something) afloat.
sordid: adj involving ignoble actions and motives; arousing moral distaste and contempt.
quire: n. four sheets of paper or parchment folded to form eight leaves, as in medieval manuscripts.
facsimile: n an exact copy, especially of written or printed material.
nave:n the central part of a church building, intended to accommodate most of the congregation. In traditional Western churches it is rectangular, separated from the chancel by a step or rail, and from adjacent aisles by pillars.
dissipate: v disperse or scatter.
trod: a way of walking
remnant: n a small remaining quantity of something.
keel:v turn over on its side; capsize.
spinet: n a small harpsichord with the strings set obliquely to the keyboard, popular in the 18th century.
roachly: a cockroach.
dracomachia: the dated art of fighting dragons using specialized technology and soldiers.
enmity: n the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.
supercilious (tone): adj behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.
I think that's enough words to remember for today.
